Diesel Services Albany was established in April 2007 when Wayne Drinnan purchased the business from P&L Autos, a locally established business of 16 years.

Diesel Services Ltd specialise in truck and diesel machinery repairs and servicing, from electrical issues to welding, engine, diff and gear box reconditioning with our team of highly qualified and experienced technicians.

Diesel Services strives to offer a high standard of workmanship and efficiency thereby reducing maintenance and repair time and cost for our customers.

Diesel Services Albany are now COF certified, enabling us to meet all your needs at once. We can complete both the COF-pre check and also the COF, giving you piece of mind, and also saving time.

We currently have three certified COF inspectors so can efficiently deal with your inspection requirements. We also have a certified welder working for us, to ensure all your general and certified welding needs are met.

Wayne Drinnan Managing Director

I have been in the heavy diesel trade for 20 years. After doing my apprenticeship at P & L Autos on trucks and forklifts, I qualified as an A Grade Heavy Automotive Technician. Since then I have worked for a few different companies; Wharehine Contractors – Heavy plant mechanic/foreman, AB Industries – Engine reconditioning / foreman and sailing holidays in Croatia as a marine engineer. 

Over the years I have gained a lot of valuable experience and with this, decided to purchase P & L Autos in April 2007, renaming it Diesel Services Albany Ltd. 

When I am not working I enjoy hunting, fishing, divi
ng and flying over the Kaipara Flats on a nice day. I am a family man with 1 son and 1 daughter.

Who we are.

Shaun Lambert Operations Manager/Technician

I completed my apprenticeship in Automotive Heavy Engineering Road Transport & Plant and Equipment at Wharehine Contractors where I worked on a wide variety of vehicles including truck and trailer units, diggers, bulldozers and scrapers etc for 9 years. 

I then went to Power Farming North Harbour for 1 year, fixing many different types of tractors and agricultural equipment. I have been at Diesel Services Albany since May 2009 and in that time have completed the DTC Interpretation & Symptom Diagnoses Certificate with Isuzu NZ Ltd. 

I have NZ Drivers Licence Classes 1-5, W, T, R, Forklift and Dangerous Goods. 

I am a family man with one daughter and one son.  I am also a car enthusiast and enjoy hunting, fishing and diving. 

I am also a certified COF inspector since April 2015.

I started with Diesel Services Albany in March 2016, I have been in the mechanical trade since leaving school. In my spare time I like being outdoors, traveling or on my motorbike..

Narrelle Nicholson Office Manager


I started at Diesel Services Albany in January 2013. My background over the years has mostly  been in hospitality administration with spending many years abroad. This is a job I enjoy as it keeps me very busy & at times can be quite entertaining. During any spare time I might encounter involves spending time with friends, family, fishing, diving & water sports.

I started with Diesel Services Albany in October 2016. I find the position challenging but I am also enjoying learning new skills in an around the office. I am a car enthusiast spending most weekends with friends cruising to different car meets/shows.

 David Hedges Diesel Technician & Vehicle Inspector


I have been a diesel mechanic for forty years on European trucks. I did my apprenticeship with a Ford Main dealer passing City and Guilds Certificate of Mechanics. I emigrated from the UK to NZ in 2007. I have a full NZ Heavy Goods licence (Class 5). Since joining Diesel Services Albany I have gained a ‘Certificate of Achievement’ for Isuzu Service and Maintenance – Master Technician 1. 
In my spare time I enjoy watching football and support Chelsea. I am also interested in restoration of older vehicles, currently restoring a Ford Capri which I bought with me from the UK. 
I am also a certified COF inspector since April 2015.

Donald Brackenridge Diesel Technician & Vehicle Inspector


I joined Diesel services Albany in 2012 but have been in the industry for 40 odd years. Spare time is scarce these days but when I am lucky enough to have some down time I enjoy boating & fishing. I have since become a COF inspector..

I started with Diesel Services Albany in August 2015. I’m a family man, in my free time I enjoy getting out of Auckland and going to my batch with my family. 

Max Yang Diesel Technician


I joined Diesel Services Albany in October 2011 & since then I have started an apprenticeship as a diesel technician.Before deciding on a career in the automotive industry I was a qualified computer technician. Some of my interests are to learn as much as I can about modern & classic trucks such as “The Pacific”, engine technology and bush walking.

I started with Diesel Services Albany in Oct 2014. I have over 15 years experience in selling  both automotive and commercial parts. I also look after the Motor-vation Ltd parts side of the business as well. I am a family man with 1 daughter and 1 son, and enjoy speedway, swimming and spending time with my family.

I first started with Diesel Services Albany early 2012 for work experience. I was then offered an apprenticeship in June 2012. I look forward to the day I become a qualified diesel technician. I have a keen interest in the trade & love working on vehicles. In my spare time you would usually find me in my wagon off roading, at the beach or socializing with my friends.

I started at Diesel Services Albany as work experience in October 2016. Since then I have been offered a position and an apprenticeship as an Auto Electrician. My goals are to become fully qualified. In my free time I enjoy working on my car & designing robots.

Hi, I’m Jacob and I started at Diesel Services Albany in August 2017 to be trained as a diesel mechanic. In my spare time you will find me watching rugby, playing hockey or socialising at the pub. I’m fond of old cars and I look forward to learning about and working on all sorts of diesel vehicles and equipment in the years to come.

I started with Diesel Services in March 2017as a Diesel Technician and coming from overseas with my family to settle into the New Zealand lifestyle.
During my down-time I like to star gaze, go for long walks on the beach and stay active by board riding and trampolining.

I started at Diesel Services Albany in August 2017 and have since begun my apprenticeship. I enjoy working on the trucks and heavy machinery and learning how they work. In my spare time I enjoy participating in a variety of sports, but mainly rugby and touch.

Andrew Watkiss Diesel Technician & Vehicle Inspector for W.O.F. / C.O.F.  A / C.O.F B


I have been a petrol and diesel technician for 34 years. I did my 5-year apprenticeship with Powertrain U K, passing City & Guilds for petrol and diesel Auto electrical maintenance. I have worked for Pullman fleet services, Volvo Trucks UK, Scania Trucks UK, DafTrucks UK.

Then we moved to New Zealand in 2006 and in that time, I have worked for the AA as a vehicle inspector, for VTNZ as a vehicle inspector and I have been at Diesel Services Albany Ltd as a W.O.F inspector for motorbikes, cars, vans, trailers, C.O.F A for light P.S.V and C.O.F B for heavy truck and trailers since March 2017. I also have my class 5 licence. In my spare time l enjoy working on my own.jobs at home, riding my pushbike and walking.
